Believe it or not, I use to think the only way to prepare pastries was from a box or purchase from a bakery. In November 2004 my mindset changed and I baked my first cake from scratch…a 7-Up cake with pineapple and coconut frosting (yummy…my sister and mine fav!). From that point on I never used box cake mixes again.
I guess I would still be considered an amateur because I only bake for the family during holidays and a few times for birthdays. I love “Cake Boss”, that show inspired me to take my baking to the next level and try implementing designs versus just frosting a cake and being done with it.
My specialties are Cream Cheese Pound Cake, 7-Up Cake with Pineapple and Coconut frosting, Yellow Cake w/ Caramel or Cream Cheese Frosting, Devil’s Food Cake, Sweet Potato Pie, Apple Pie and Lemon Meringue Pie. I baked a cheese cake once but it cracked a little so I need to perfect that before I consider it one of my specialties.
I don’t have an extensive baking collection; I have a few round pans, 2 Bundt pans, 1 square pan, a few cupcake/muffin pans and the utensils to pipe with. Oh and how can I forget…MY KITCHEN AID STAND MIXER (I love this thing)!
