I like to use smiley faces :-)

Okay, so I just realized that posting from my mobile is so much different than my laptop.  Of course I knew this, but I'd forgotten that the formatting would be way off!  So if you see random question marks "?" or characters in my post, that's my smiley faces or thumbs up from an app on my iPhone.  I didn't realize that it wouldn't show when viewed on a PC...sorry guys and gals.  But I wanted to clear that up.  Also, I forgot what when I started this blog a few years ago that I did my post backgrounds in black with white writing...so I JUST UPDATED all of my posts with a different background color and black lettering.  Sometimes I like to post from my phone and I don't have the opportunity to do fancy stuff from the app.

Until next time...happy baking :-)

Week 4 & Last Wilton's Course 1 Decorating Class

Today was my final class for the Wilton's Beginning Decorating Course 1. We had to bring a cake already frosted and decorate it however we liked in class. I made a chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling and chocolate buttercream. We learned how to make a ribbon rose and practiced writing. I love making flowers and designs (hint hint).  See my cake below. BTW...it's so tasty 👍. And since I don't like buttercream I scraped that part off, although I love chocolate. I also don't like yellow cake unless it's my 7-up cake with pineapple and coconut frosting.  Weird huh?!?!

Norman's Birthday

This is by far and no where near as neat as it should have been. However, if you view my June 2012 post of the first cake I made for Norman, it's definitely better this time around. I rushed through the entire decorating process because he was coming over and I literally had 10 minutes to finish. I'm surely not good enough, yet, to rush and make it look pretty...so here it is. Happy Birthday Norman (BTW...his b-day is 4/23...not today).

P.S. My roses will look much better next go round. My Wilton instructor showed me one time how to do it. We haven't started roses in the class yet so I feel special that I was shown ahead of time. I love my leaves...they were definitely a super challenge for me in class. I totally sucked at making them and now I'm great! 😃

Week 3 - Wilton's Beginning Decorating course 1

So this week we had to bring a plain cake of choice. In class we had to frost it, place a gel outline decoration on it, and fill in the pic. It was kinda easy. My pic was a cute bunny and I really wish I piped stars versus piping the fur look. I'm still a beginner with the Wilton's tip 233. I always make my "fur" too long. My bunny wasn't the best, but it looked a bunny so I'm happy. I actually like making mistakes, that way I know what not to do next time! 😃👍. Anyway here are my pics...

BTW...I made a lemon cake with lemon curd as the filling and lemon flavored buttercream.

Week 2 - Cupcakes!

Class #2 was cupcake decorating. Silly me woke up Saturday morning baking homemade vanilla cupcakes. I'll never do that again. Not only did I attend my regular class, I also signed up for a one day Cupcake course. So it was double everything for me!!!  Anyway, I don't have much to say except I'm learning a lot and I had fun. See my pics below. The first two pics are from the one day course and the other pics are from my regular class.

My First Wilton Decorating Class!

After all these years I FINALLY got off my lazy behind and took a Wilton's beginning pastry decorating class at my local Michael's.  I've been wanting to take that class for at least three years. I don't know what stopped me before, but this time I paid online and knew that I wouldn't waste my money by not showing up. This week was cookie decorating 🍪. I used cheater cookies aka I purchased them from Target. I was way too tired when I got home from work yesterday to make homemade cookies.  I loved my class, and even signed up for a one day cupcake class which will be right before my decorating class next Saturday.  Btw, today we learned how to pipe stars, dots, elongated dots, and make swiggly lines. 😃
